Why ?
Consider ... Bats left handed, runs like the wind and hits a double only once
in every 65 at bats. That alone is amazing.
His 2016 AAA numbers are nearly that of all his pro career. BA = 210 ..
Slug = 230 .. Strikes out a lot. Grounds softly to pitcher a lot. Has a very weak throwing arm. Gets picked off too often. And, only 10 for 16 in stolen bases.
Campana's agent deserves a Heisman, Nobel Prize and a Congressional Medal of Honor for his ability to sell Tony Campana to any pro club. Why did the White Sox sign him for 500K this year ? ... Anyone ?

Re: This Muskbox is a Month Old, and You Shouldn’t Read It

And now for that Weber Sauces and Seasonings Call to the Comments Section.

Re: 10 Years

Fuck me. Sosa did say that he thought the team was closer now (before the season) than it was before. Carol pointed out there were factions in the clubhouse the season before. In fairness, Sammy just answered the question. While Sosa could argue that he meant someone else, clearly Mark was the biggest name that was now gone so Mark was right to question the comment. Regardless, Sosa did not actually say "Mark Grace" so maybe Grace should have not been so quick to openly attack Sosa. Grace was always a big mouth and he was jealous of Sammy. Grace would often make passive aggressive shots towards Sammy - even while they were teammates. "Home runs are rally killers" "fans should not just want to come to see home runs" "I am glad they gave Sammy that HUGE contact" "I think being on WGN hurts the Cubs because players sometimes are too showy" blah blah blah Think Sammy didn't notice??? As far as a player, Grace was a throw back player in the vein of Keith Hernandez. Grace shamelessly tried to copy him. Sometimes I wonder if he had a weird identity crisis and thought he was Keith Hernandez. With the exception of the Manager Leyland, I never saw anyone but Hernandez smoke in the dugout and then Grace started doing that himself. On a positive note, it made Grace work at being a premiere defensive first baseman. He was a great competitor and he was one of those unappreciative players who could produce against top teams or pitchers but may not have the huge season stats. Mark De Rosa was another player that comes to mind. I knew Grace would help Arizona in the playoffs so it didn't surprise me he came through in the clutch. Often, big power hitters or even top players are marginalized in these games and it is guys like Grace that make the impact. Shame the Cubs did not go to the playoffs more with Grace On the other hand, he did not work out, smoked and drank too much, talked too much, and sucked up to the managers (particularly Riggleman) and I am convinced he negatively influenced Jim. He can F/U the Cubs all he wants but he mainly played one full season with Arizona. The next couple years they were trying to develop a young first baseman. Also, while questioning Sammy's power rise it never dawned on him that his teammate Luis suddenly hit 57 homers when he barely hit 15 while playing for Cubs. Final note: Though Grace cheap shot the Cubs and Sammy after he left, Sammy's ego did swell way out of proportion and he shamelessly ruled the club house and became one of the biggest baseball divas of all time. It all came to the surface and Sammy is now persona non grata with the fans. It is now almost like he didn't play for the Cubs. Kerry Wood had to have been one of Grace's loyalist back in the day because it was he that finally broke Sammy's radio that dominated the clubhouse for years. So in the end, Grace is not as low as Sammy but he did bite the hand that fed him and won't be making money selling autographs in Rosemont anytime soon.

Re: An Irish Wake for the 2015 Cubs

I checked HJE on a whim to see if there was anything new and was rewarded with some great posts! Hope the comedy's going well and here's to looking forward to "Next Year" with nervous anticipation for one of the first times in recent memory. Just watch the damn baseball game. Drop all of the baggage. It does you no good, and it certainly does the team no good. Watch the game, cheer for the Cubs until the last out, and then celebrate or be sad and move on.
